Dentures & Partials

What are Dentures & Partials?

A full denture and partial denture can help to restore the beauty and fullness of your smile. Partial dentures are best for patients who still have most of their own healthy teeth. Full dentures are better for patients who are missing all of their teeth or who have advanced gum disease. Dentures of all kinds are prosthetic appliances that can and should be removed each night.

Why are Dentures & Partials needed?

When you are missing the majority of your teeth, you may find that it’s difficult or even impossible to enjoy your favorite foods. You may even look older because your face has begun to look sunken-in. Rather than simply make do with these problems, a denture can be made and worn to restore what you’re missing. Dentures can last for up to seven years before needing to be replaced.

Who is a candidate for Dentures & Partials?

Most patients who need a denture of any kind are good candidates for the procedure. if you have advanced gum disease, we may suggest that you have remaining teeth removed prior to a denture being made. This allows us to start with a clean slate and to remove problem teeth that could become infected or loose. Dentures are custom-made so that they look completely natural for each individual patient.

What happens during the process for Dentures & Partials?

We first will take impressions of your teeth and gums. These detailed molds are used to make a new full or partial denture. You will come back into the office after about one to two weeks for a fitting. You’ll have the denture adjusted as needed and may need to come in for subsequent adjustments until the fit feels comfortable. Your denture needs to be taken out every night to clean and soak it in a denture solution. This helps to remove stains and odors that can cause the denture to become worn.
